NQ Telehealth Project

The NQ Telehealth Project aims to optimise the quality and safety of health care for rural, remote and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander populations in the region by optimising the use of telehealth as part of health care delivery.

Telehealth has evolved in NQ out of necessity to meet the health needs of our culturally diverse and geographically distributed communities. Despite the longevity of telehealth in our region, we don't know what makes a safe and high quality telehealth service. The NQ Telehealth Project is formally known as the “Leveraging northern Queensland (NQ) telehealth experience for contextually informed process guidelines to optimise health service access, quality and safety in rural and remote Australia project” (GNT2032671).

Formal project partners are:

  • James Cook University (JCU)
  • Tropical Australian Academic Health Centre (TAAHC)
  • Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service (CHHHS)
  • Townsville Hospital and Health Service (THHS)

The five-year project is being led by James Cook University and has received funding from the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC). See the project flyers for more information.
